Synonyms:
  • Phthalazine, 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-
Description:

Tetrahydrophthalazine is a malonic acid n-oxide that is used as a pharmaceutical agent for the treatment of bowel disease. It has been shown to be effective in the management of chronic arthritis and autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis. Tetrahydrophthalazine is also active against infectious diseases, such as HIV infection and hepatitis B virus (HBV). This drug inhibits adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-ribose polymerase and receptor activity, which are enzymes involved in the inflammatory response and immune response. Tetrahydrophthalazine also has antihypertensive activity, inhibiting angiotensin I-converting enzyme and increasing nitric oxide production.
