Cyclopentyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidine-2,4-dione is a conformational analog of the pyrimidine nucleoside uracil. The x-ray crystal structure reveals that the molecule adopts two different conformations: one with a trans conformation and one with a cis conformation. It has shown to inhibit bacterial growth in cell culture studies. This compound has been shown to bind to the bacterial enzyme DNA gyrase and inhibit its activity. Cyclopentyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidine-2,4-dione may also have antiviral activity and is being investigated for use in cancer treatments.
