4-Allyloxyanisole (4-AO) is a ligand that has been shown to enhance the rate of reactions involving ammonium nitrate, acetonitrile and amide substrates. 4-AO is also an electron donor in phosphite and sulfoxide reactions. The hydroxyl group on the benzene ring of 4-AO can be replaced by a variety of other groups to produce different compounds with different properties. This includes dihydroxylated compounds, which have been shown to be acidic, as well as microwaves, which are not only stereoselective but also advance the reaction kinetics.
