DCVC is a molecule that can be used as an analytical method to measure intracellular targets. It is a reactive agent and causes oxidative injury in cells. DCVC has been shown to be toxic in studies using proximal tubule cells, which are cells of the kidney that are involved in the reabsorption of water and ions, including sodium and potassium. DCVC also causes mitochondrial dysfunction, leading to significant changes in mitochondrial membrane potential, transport, cytosolic Ca2+, and mitochondrial functions. DCVC inhibits ATP-dependent transport reactions within the mitochondria and may cause energy metabolism problems.
