1-Methyl-1H-indazole is a hydrolysis product of myoglobin. It is also a reaction product of heterocyclic amines and has been reported to have anticancer properties in vivo. 1-Methyl-1H-indazole is used as a ligand to form pharmaceutical formulations with metal ions, such as copper and zinc, which are used to treat cancer. The ligand binds the metal ion and then forms a complex that can be used for therapy. 1-Methyl-1H-indazole has shown no appreciable toxicity at doses up to 600 mg/kg in mice. Studies are being conducted to determine the efficacy of this compound for cancer treatment.
