Description

Meso-1,2-dibromo-1,2-diphenylethane is a brominated organic compound that has been studied in electrochemical studies. It is activated by the addition of halides and the neutral form is present as monomers. The meso-1,2-dibromo-1,2-diphenylethane molecules can exist as two isomers: cis and trans. The cis isomer has been shown to be more reactive than the trans isomer in Friedel-Crafts reactions. Meso-1,2-Dibromo-1,2-diphenylethane can also undergo elimination reactions with lithium or sodium hydrogen to produce butyllithium or sodium hydride respectively.
