Product Information
5-Chloro-2-methyl-6-nitro-1,3-benzoxazole is an organic compound with chemical formula CHNO. It is a colorless solid that can be synthesized by the nitration of 5-chloro-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene. Its melting point is between 121°C and 123°C. 5CHNO has been used as an acidifier and acidulant in foods and beverages. It also acts as an alkaline agent in the manufacture of soap and detergents.
5CHNO hydrolyzes to form hydrochloric acid and 2,4,6 trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid (TNBS). This process is catalyzed by acids such as hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid and also by alkalis such as sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide. The reaction between 5CHNO and hydrochloric acid produces nitrous oxide gas
