The inhibition of this channel leads to an increase in the cytosolic calcium concentration and physiological effects such as vasoconstriction and platelet aggregation. 5,8,11-Eicosatriynoic acid is also involved in transcriptional regulation, polymerase chain reactions, and enzyme inhibition. It has been shown to have cardiovascular effects on atherosclerotic models in animal studies. 5,8,11-Eicosatriynoic acid also inhibits the activity of effector proteins in the immune system.
