3-(2-Nitro-1H-imidazol-1-yl)propane-1,2-diol is a cytotoxic agent that inhibits the synthesis of DNA. It binds to the DNA in cells and prevents it from being replicated. 3-(2-Nitro-1H-imidazol-1-yl)propane-1,2-diol has been shown to cause tumour regression in many types of cancer cells, including those derived from solid tumours or rat liver microsomes.
