Iridium(III) chloride trihydrate is a dendron that is bidentate ligand. It is a chemosensor for the detection of sodium carbonate, sodium citrate and other molecules. The molecule can also be processed by hydrochloric acid and 4-bromophenylboronic acid to produce picolinic acid, which can be used as an ancillary ligand in organic synthesis. The synthetic pathway has not been described yet.
