The electron transfer mechanism for this compound has been studied by electrochemical voltammetry and radical anions. These studies show that 4-chloro-phthalazin-1-yl)-methyl-amine reacts with unsymmetrical alkyl nitrogens to form a stable radical anion. This reaction can be reversed by adding a base or electron donor, such as methylamine.
