4-Chlorophthalazin-1-amine is a tetracyclic compound that is synthesized by the sequential use of alkylation, transition, and alkylation reactions. The first step of the synthesis involves the reaction of an aryl glyoxal with a pyridazine to give an intermediate which undergoes intramolecular cyclization to form a pyridazine. The second step involves the reaction of this intermediate with phenyl bromide to form the desired product. 4-Chlorophthalazin-1-amine is used as a catalyst in amination reactions.
