Yttrium fluoride is a solid that emits light when heated. When heated, it will emit light and heat simultaneously. Yttrium fluoride has a high melting point of about 2,600 degrees Celsius and a low vapor pressure, which makes it chemically stable. It can be synthesized by heating yttrium with hydrogen fluoride or trifluoroacetic acid to form the compound. Yttrium fluoride also has high values for thermal expansion and light emission when exposed to laser radiation.
