Product Information

Name:
[4-(4-Phosphonophenyl)phenyl]phosphonic acid
Synonyms:
  • Biphenyl-4,4'-diylbis(phosphonic acid)
  • Phosphonic Acid, [1,1'-Biphenyl]-4,4'-Diylbis-
Description:

4-(4-Phosphonophenyl)phenyl]phosphonic acid is a ligand that can be used as a postsynthetic probe for the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. This compound has been synthesized from 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde and 2-chloro-N,N-dimethylethylenediamine in two steps. The phosphonic acid group is introduced by reaction with phosphorus pentoxide in the presence of sodium hydroxide at room temperature. The functional groups are determined by infrared spectroscopy and proton NMR spectroscopy. The nature of the compound is acidic, which can be seen by its pKa value of 3.0.
