Oplodiol is a sesquiterpene lactone that has been shown to have antiviral activity. It has also been shown to promote bone mineralization and healthy skeletal development. Oplodiol is found in the etoac extract of Japonica rice, among other sources, and binds to the receptor site for progesterone on cells. Oplodiol may also have an anti-inflammatory effect due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and COX-2 enzymes.
