Vanadyl phthalocyanine is a compound that can be synthesized by reacting vanadyl with hydroxyl groups. Vanadyl phthalocyanine molecules have a dipole moment and emit light when irradiated by light of the correct wavelength. The color of the light emitted depends on the size of the molecule, which is determined by its morphology. Laser ablation techniques are used to produce thin films of vanadyl phthalocyanine that are used to study their optical properties. These films also show transport properties, which allow them to act as model systems for semiconductors.
