Product Information
- Thiophene, 2-(diethoxymethyl)-
Thiophene-2-carboxaldehyde diethylacetal is an optical, photochromic compound that belongs to the class of diarylheterocyclic compounds. It has a wavelength of 420 nm (UV), which can be shifted to a wavelength of 520 nm (visible) by exposure to light. This compound undergoes an irreversible change in color when acetalized with ethanol or other alcohols, and it is synthesized by reacting thiophene-2-carboxaldehyde with diethyl acetate. Thiophene-2-carboxaldehyde diethylacetal has been used in the synthesis of dyes and pigments as well as in photochromic applications.
