4,4-Dimethyl-1-phenylpentane-1,3-dione is a chemical compound with the formula C9H14O2. It is a colorless solid that has an apple-like odor. This compound is a dicarboxylic acid that can be converted into 2,5-dimethylhexane-2,5-dione by heating it at 200 °C in the presence of alkali metal. This reaction proceeds via bond cleavage and conformational change between the two carboxyl groups. The intramolecular hydrogen bonds are also broken during this process.
