Product Information
Sodium citrate is a salt of citric acid and sodium that is used in the treatment of bowel disease. It binds to hydrophobic molecules such as bile acids, cholesterol, and fat-soluble vitamins, which are then excreted from the body in the stool. Sodium citrate also has an effect on locomotor activity and experimental models for colorectal cancer. Sodium citrate has been shown to inhibit binding to squamous cells in vitro. The mechanism by which it inhibits binding may be due to its ability to chelate metal ions, thereby preventing DNA synthesis. Sodium citrate has also been shown to inhibit cell growth and promote apoptosis by inhibiting protein synthesis through inhibition of enzymes such as dpp-iv. This drug also has electrochemical impedance spectroscopy properties that can be used in diagnosis or structural analysis of cells or tissues.
