9-(5'-tert-Butyldiphenylsilyl-2'-deoxy-b-D-xylofuranosyl)guanine is a novel nucleoside that has been synthesized by the phosphoramidite method. It is a monophosphate, which can be activated to yield an anticancer agent. 9-(5'-tert-Butyldiphenylsilyl-2'-deoxy-b-D-xylofuranosyl)guanine is chemically modified with a silyl group at the 5' position of the sugar moiety and a tertiary butyldiphenylsilyl group at the 2' position of the sugar moiety. It has been shown to inhibit DNA synthesis and viral replication, as well as to have antiangiogenic activity.
