5-Bromo-2,4-di(benzyloxy)pyrimidine is an activator of DNA and RNA synthesis. It is a phosphoramidite that is used in the synthesis of oligonucleotides. 5-Bromo-2,4-di(benzyloxy)pyrimidine has antiviral activity and can inhibit the replication of HIV in vitro. This compound also has anticancer activity when it is given as a monophosphate, while its diphosphate form inhibits DNA and RNA synthesis. 5-Bromo-2,4-di(benzyloxy)pyrimidine can be synthesized from 2,4-dibenzyloxy pyrimidine and bromine in high purity with a CAS number 41244-53-5.
