Description

2,3',5-Trichlorobiphenyl is a chlorinated aromatic compound that is considered to be a pre-existing contaminant. It is the most abundant polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) in the environment and has been detected in all living organisms. 2,3',5-Trichlorobiphenyl (TCBP) is bioconverted into dichlorobenzene under anaerobic conditions and then dechlorinated by reductive dehalogenase enzymes to 2,3,4,6-tetrachlorophenol (2,3',4,6'-TCP). TCBP can also be degraded by bacteria to form hydrogen gas and other pre-existing compounds. The metabolism of TCBP occurs mainly in the liver and intestine of animals.
