Description:

2,3,4'-Trichlorobiphenyl is a polychlorinated biphenyl that has been shown to cause hepatotoxicity in animals. 2,3,4'-Trichlorobiphenyl is metabolized by cytochrome P450 1A1 to form reactive metabolites that bind covalently to cellular macromolecules. In vitro studies have shown that 2,3,4'-trichlorobiphenyl can be activated by mammalian cells and produce cytotoxic effects. It can also cause genetic mutations through the production of oxygen radicals and DNA adducts. The toxic effects of 2,3,4'-trichlorobiphenyl are increased when it is activated at high concentrations.
