Product Information
2-Methyl-1-propenylmagnesium bromide (2MPB) is a reagent that is used in cross-coupling reactions. This compound reacts with allyl ligands such as propargyl bromide to form the corresponding allyl magnesium compounds. The chloride atom of 2MPB coordinates to the metal catalyst and initiates the reaction by abstracting a hydrogen from the substrate. The carbonyl group of 2MPB then coordinates to palladium, which catalyzes the coupling reaction. In vivo, 2MPB can be converted into synthetic glucocorticoids, which are active against inflammatory diseases. This compound is levorotatory and has hydroxyl groups on both sides of its central carbon atom. It also has a tosyl group and an isostere, which are substituents that have similar chemical properties but differ in their physical characteristics. Asymmetric synthesis can be carried out using chiral auxiliaries that
