Description:

Tris(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedionato)ruthenium(III) is a ligand that has been shown to bind to the surface of metal and form molecularly with tert-butyl. It can be prepared by reacting 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedione with ruthenium chloride in the presence of tert-butyl alcohol at temperatures between 150°C and 200°C. The compound is a strong electron donor that can desorb gas phase adsorbed molecules such as isobutene and monoxide. Tris(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedionato)ruthenium(III) also has x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy properties that are sensitive to electron density at the surface.
