1-Dodecylnaphthalene is a synthetic polymer that is used to produce polyester. It can be used to produce microcapsules for drug delivery and as a fatty acid neutralizing chemical in the production of polymers. The hydroxyl group on the naphthalene molecule makes it highly reactive with cationic surfactants, which are commonly found in detergents. This reactivity allows for its use in the production of polymeric matrixes and microcapsules. 1-Dodecylnaphthalene also has an effect on rat liver microsomes and human liver.
