Description

(-)-Ecgonine methyl ester hydrochloride is a synthetic analog that is the result of the esterification of (-)-ecgonine with methyl-(-)-toluenesulfonate. This compound has shown to be an immunoassay reagent for the detection of cocaine in urine and blood, as well as a ligand for the determination of ecgonine methyl ester in biological fluids. (-)-Ecgonine methyl ester hydrochloride is also useful in fluorescing assays designed to detect antibodies against ecgonine methyl ester or its conjugates. The molecule is composed of a diazo group, which reacts with amino acids and polypeptides containing an amine functional group, such as alveolar proteins.
