The N-succinimidyl 4-(5-nitro-pyridin-2-yldithio)-pentanoate is a product of the reaction between 2,4-dinitrobenzene sulfonic acid and N,N'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide. The chemical reactions are catalyzed by the formation of an ester bond between the nitropyridine group and the thiol group of the pentanoic acid. The product has been shown to be effective in treating metabolic disorders, such as diabetes mellitus type I. It has also been used to treat high resistance to peptide hormones.
