5'-Carboxy-2-iodo-2',3'-O-isopropylideneadenosine is an antiviral and anticancer monophosphate nucleoside. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of HIV replication in vitro, with IC50 values of 0.5 μM for HIV-1 and 0.8 μM for HIV-2. 5'-Carboxy-2-iodo-2',3'-O-isopropylideneadenosine also inhibits the replication of herpes simplex virus type 1 (IC50 = 0.7 μM) and cytomegalovirus (IC50 = 2.6 μM). 5'-Carboxy-2-iodo-2',3'-O-isopropylideneadenosine was found to be more than 10 times as potent as adenosine in inhibiting DNA synthesis in human tumor cell lines, including leukemia cells, carcinoma cells,
