2-Cyclohexyl-5-pyrimidinecarbaldehyde is a synthetic, modified nucleoside. It is an inhibitor of DNA synthesis and replication through its ability to inhibit the enzyme DNA polymerase. This compound has also shown antiviral activity by inhibiting the synthesis of viral RNA and inhibiting HIV-1 reverse transcriptase in vitro. 2-Cyclohexyl-5-pyrimidinecarbaldehyde is not active against cells that lack ribonucleotide reductase.
