[1,2,4]Triazolo[4,3-a]pyrimidin-3(2H)-one is a benzoyl chloride derivative that is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. It has been shown to be effective for the treatment of respiratory tract infections caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae. [1,2,4]Triazolo[4,3-a]pyrimidin-3(2H)-one may also be used for the treatment of skin infections and acne. This compound can be synthesized by reacting thiourea with acetyl chloride followed by hydrolysis with hydrogen chloride gas. The reaction requires anhydrous conditions and produces (1) chloride as a byproduct.
