Secoisolariciresinol monoglucoside is a reaction product of secoisolariciresinol and galacturonic acid. The structure of this compound is similar to that of erythromycin, but it has a lower activity against bacteria. Secoisolariciresinol monoglucoside inhibits the active enzymes in bacteria, including those involved in glycosidic bond formation, nucleotide levels, and sequences. This compound has been found to have low chemical stability and is not active against Gram-positive bacteria. Secoisolariciresinol monoglucoside is also not active against the Gram-negative bacterium Escherichia coli.
