Product Information
(R)-3-Aminoadipic acid hydrochloride is a potent antibacterial agent that inhibits the synthesis of messenger RNA (mRNA) and protein in bacteria. It binds to the ribosomal 50S subunit, blocking mRNA synthesis and inhibiting protein synthesis. The drug is used as an anti-infective agent in pharmaceutical preparations for the treatment of infectious diseases. It has been shown to be effective against Mycobacterium avium complex, which can cause inflammatory diseases. This drug has also been found to selectively inhibit cancer cells in vitro, causing cell death through apoptosis and necrosis. In addition, this drug has been shown to have antiviral activity by inhibiting DNA replication in HIV-1 infected cells. The mechanism of this inhibition is thought to be due to the selective binding of the drug to a specific site on the HIV-1 reverse transcriptase enzyme (RT).
The selectable marker in these experiments was chloramphenicol acetyl
