N-(2,3-Dihydro-1,4-benzodioxin-6-yl)acetamide is a compound that has antimicrobial activity. It is a thionyl chloride (SOCl2) derivative of 1,4-benzodioxane. It inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to bacterial DNA and preventing transcription and replication. N-(2,3-Dihydro-1,4-benzodioxin-6-yl)acetamide has been synthesised by reacting 2,3dihydrobenzo[b]thiophene with acetamide in the presence of SOCl2. N-(2,3-Dihydro-1,4-benzodioxin-6-yl)acetamide has been shown to be active against gram negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. This molecule also has antibacterial properties
