Brofaromine is a reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A) and B (MAO-B). It is used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, depression, and drug addiction. Brofaromine reversibly inhibits MAO-A in the brain and reversibly inhibits MAO-B in peripheral tissues. It has been shown that brofaromine has inhibitory properties against locomotor activity, which may be due to its ability to increase 5-HT concentrations in the hippocampus.
