2-(4-Hydroxyphenyl)benzo[b]thiophen-6-ol is a phenolic compound that can be found in wheat. It is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that binds to the estrogen receptor and prevents it from binding to DNA. This drug has been shown to inhibit the activity of enzymes, including protein kinase C, phospholipase A2, and cyclooxygenase, which are involved in inflammatory responses and cancer. 2-(4-Hydroxyphenyl)benzo[b]thiophen-6-ol also inhibits the production of proinflammatory cytokines in vitro.
