Product Information
2-Naphthalenesulfinic acid sodium (2NS) is a synthetic chemical that is used in organic synthesis as a strong base. It is an amine and can be used to convert quinoline derivatives into amines. The sulfinic acid group of 2NS can act as a nucleophile and react with an electrophilic carbon atom to form a new bond. The reaction mechanism of 2NS involves the formation of the C-S bond by nucleophilic attack on the carbonyl carbon atom, followed by proton transfer from the sulfur atom to the oxygen atom. This process leads to the formation of an imidazopyridine, which can be hydrolyzed by water. 2NS may also react with aldehydes via hydrogen abstraction or reductive elimination reactions.
2NS has been shown to have antimicrobial properties against some bacteria, such as Streptococcus mutans, Enterococcus faecalis, and Pseudomonas aerug
