Dihydroalpinumisoflavone is a chalcone that has been shown to have antifungal effects in vitro. It also has neuroprotective and antioxidant properties. Dihydroalpinumisoflavone has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells, including pancreatic cancer cells. It is structurally related to other flavonoids, such as isodon and apigenin. Dihydroalpinumisoflavone binds to the enzyme cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and prevents the conversion of arachidonic acid into prostaglandins, which are inflammatory mediators. This chemical compound also inhibits the production of glucose in hepatocytes, thereby having antidiabetic effects.
