(R)-N-(2,3-Dihydro-1H-indenyl)adenosine is a drug that belongs to the class of indole alkaloids. It has been shown to have antihypertensive activity in spontaneously hypertensive rats and in animals with induced hypertension. This drug also has an effect on the regression of congestive heart failure, as well as lowering urea nitrogen levels. (R)-N-(2,3-Dihydro-1H-indenyl)adenosine has been shown to reduce blood pressure by reducing peripheral vascular resistance and increasing cardiac output. The mechanism of action may be due to its ability to inhibit the enzyme nitric oxide synthase (NOS).
