3',5'-Di-O-benzoyl-2'-deoxy-2',2'-difluorouridine is a nucleoside that has antiviral and anticancer properties. It has been shown to inhibit the replication of RNA viruses, such as HIV and influenza A virus, and DNA viruses, such as herpes simplex virus (HSV) I or II. 3',5'-Di-O-benzoyl-2'-deoxy-2',2'-difluorouridine is also active against cancer cells in vitro. This drug inhibits the synthesis of DNA by preventing the incorporation of nucleotides into the growing strand. The synthesis of mRNA is also inhibited by this compound through inhibition of ribonucleic acid (RNA) polymerase II.
