2-[Methyl(3-methylbutanoyl)amino]acetic acid is a fatty acid that is naturally present in tissues and fluids. It has been shown to be elevated in the urine of patients with active chronic inflammatory bowel disease. This fatty acid may serve as a marker for disease activity, particularly when used in combination with other diagnostic markers such as uridine, which is also a marker of mitochondrial dysfunction. The metabolite 2-[Methyl(3-methylbutanoyl)amino]acetic acid may also have therapeutic potential for the treatment of disorders such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
