Product Information
D-3-Amino-bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-2-carboxylic acid is a neurotransmitter that is found in the brain and spinal cord. It modulates the release of glutamate, which is an excitatory neurotransmitter that binds to AMPA and NMDA receptors, as well as GABAergic neurons. D-3-Amino-bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-2-carboxylic acid has been shown to enhance uptake of glutamate by binding to the glutamate transporter on the presynaptic neuron and increasing the concentration of extracellular glutamate near postsynaptic receptors. This nonselective receptor agonist has also been shown to have analgesic effects in animal models of neuropathic pain by acting on GABAA receptors in the spinal cord, inhibiting neuronal signaling at these synapses, and reducing hypersensitivity to pain stimuli.
