1-(1-Benzylpiperidin-4-yl)ethan-1-one is a fluorescence probe that can be used in the detection of triazolopyrimidine and triazine herbicides. 1-(1-Benzylpiperidin-4-yl)ethan-1-one has been shown to bind to metal ions, such as copper and zinc, through coordination bonds. This binding inhibits the activity of cholinesterase enzymes, which are involved in the breakdown of acetylcholine. The fluorescent properties of this compound make it useful for detecting these herbicides in a wide variety of samples. The molecular modelling studies have revealed that 1-(1-Benzylpiperidin-4-yl)ethan-1-one binds to acetylcholine receptors at synaptic sites, suggesting that this drug may act as a neurotransmitter or neuromodulator.
