1,4-Bis(10-undecenyloxy)benzene is an elastomer that is photochromic, conducting, and can be used for sensing. It has been shown to form a matrix with nanowires and as an optical material. It can also be doped with lithium or other materials to give it conductive properties. 1,4-Bis(10-undecenyloxy)benzene is a member of the class of compounds known as intercalators because they are capable of inserting themselves into DNA strands by intercalation; this process alters the properties of the DNA strand. As such, these compounds are being studied for their use in cancer treatment and prevention.
