Sulfonyl Chloride Polystyrene Resin (SCPR) is a reactive, sulfonyl chloride that reacts with an organic molecule to form a new compound. It is used in the manufacture of cefpodoxime proxetil, a broad-spectrum antibiotic. The reaction mechanism involves the formation of an intermediate that reacts with fatty acid to form the desired product and inorganic acid. The nucleophilic nature of SCPR allows it to react with various molecules such as ceftriaxone, which contains ɑ-chloro-substituents. This process occurs by displacement of one or more hydrogen atoms from the chloro group. SCPR has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory and autoimmune properties.
