Product Information
3-(Benzyloxy)-2-nitrophenol is a synthetic compound that contains a benzene ring, nitro group, and a phenolic hydroxyl group. It has been synthesized in the following stepwise manner: first, 3-benzyloxy-2-nitrophenol was synthesized by adding magnesium to 3-hydroxy-2-nitrophenol; then, the nitro group of the product was oxidized with potassium dichromate to form 2-benzyloxy-4-nitrophenol. The product was then reduced with sodium borohydride to form 3-(benzyloxy)-2-nitrophenol. This dimer has been shown to have potentiometric and affinity constants for ionophores. It also exhibits high potency against bacterial cells because it inhibits ion exchange at the cell membrane level.
