It inhibits viral replication by inhibiting the activity of the NS5B polymerase, which is essential for RNA synthesis. 2'-C-Methylcytidine 5'-triphosphate triethylammonium salt - aqueous solution has been shown to inhibit hepatitis C virus (HCV) replication and induce HCV protein expression. This drug also has been shown to be active against HIV-1 and simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV).
