Product Information

Name:
4-Formylphthalonitrile
Synonyms:
  • 3,4-Dicyanobenzaldehyde
  • 4-Formyl-1,2-dicyanobenzene
Description:

4-Formylphthalonitrile is an acceptor molecule that is used in the photophysical and supramolecular chemistry. It has been shown to be a cardiac immobilizer, oxidant and diagnostic agent for cardiovascular diseases. 4-Formylphthalonitrile can be prepared by reacting phthalonitrile with formaldehyde. This compound has also been shown to have biological properties such as immobilization of cells, prevention of protein aggregation, and induction of apoptosis. 4-Formylphthalonitrile has been used to study the interaction between diazonium salts and monolayers as well as its use as a diagnostic agent for cardiovascular diseases. The compound was also used to investigate the self-assembly process of dodecamer peptides, which are involved in the development of new drugs for treating cancer or AIDS.
