Product Information
4-(Thiophen-2-ylmethyl)morpholine (4TPMM) is a metabolite of the tobacco alkaloid nicotine that is formed by the human liver. 4TPMM has been shown to be a major metabolite in tobacco smoke and yields about 1% of the nicotine content in tobacco smoke. 4TPMM is also found in paraformaldehyde, benzyl, and human lung. It is metabolically activated by cyp2a13 enzyme to form an epoxide intermediate that can produce DNA adducts. 4TPMM has been shown to have carcinogenic effects as well as other toxicities such as amines and nitrosamines.
