Ruzasvir is an antiviral drug that inhibits the replication of RNA in human cells. It is active against both wild-type and resistant strains of hepatitis C virus (HCV), including those with resistance-associated substitutions. Ruzasvir inhibits HCV NS3 protease and prevents the cleavage of polyprotein into individual proteins, thereby blocking the synthesis of viral proteins essential for viral replication. Ruzasvir also binds to a cellular protein called PD-L1, which is associated with liver cancer and other types of cancer, and this binding blocks a signal that would have otherwise allowed the cell to divide.
